Acknowledging the contributions John made to pop culture would have not only been appropriate today - but mandatory for a classic rock radio station.
John was a show business icon for the generation that listens to your radio station - trancending comedy, acting and music. His contribution and importance to your audience shouldn't be ignored.
And he left us far too soon. On a personal level, John's work remains a source of laughs and entertainment for me and both of kids (each born long after John's death). Simply timeless. added: This afternoon we popped "1941" into the DVD player.
Chicago's Steve Dahl shares his memories and time with John here.
Who else belongs on a classic rock "pop icon" list?
