The Weekend Classic Rock FM

83° - scattered clouds at 11am

Welcome to the weekend!

Streaming. Arbitron has released a new report on how diarykeepers record internet listening to AM/FM radio stations. Here.

Some highlights from the report:
  • Coinciding with new diary keeper instructions implemented in the fall of 2006, there was an increase in diary entries reporting online listening;
  • 66% of the recorded quarter-hours that identified internet listening were from a stream of a local AM/FM signal that reaches into the county from where the diary was returned;
  • And of particular interest to classic rock stations: Diarykeepers that recorded Internet listening to AM/FM radio stations tend to be older, male and Other (not black, not Hispanic).
Weekends & Specials. I've been writing for some time about the need for classic rock radio to keep the format fresh with special programming and weekends - be in a Memorial Day 500, a live tracks weekend, classic rock A to Z and the like.

Just last week I mentioned here observing post-Memorial Day web search engine queries of various station top 500 lists. And I'm still seeing this two weeks later!

That said: the never-shy Jerry Del Colliano writes here this morning about lessons learned - and habits observed both over this past Memorial Day weekend and in his prior life as a radio program director. A great read that might stimulate some thinking.

More here Sunday Morning...have a terrific weekend!
